Cambridge
elects first Asian-American city councilor; Decker reclaims seat
Almost 48 hours after
polls closed, the Cambridge Election Commission announced the
unofficial winners of the 2009 City Council and School Committee
elections. Among the highlights:
Leland Cheung, a 31-year-old
joint MBA student at Harvard and MIT, will become the first Asian-American
city councilor in Cambridge's history.
Marjorie Decker, who launched a write-in campaign after missing
the ballot deadline, was reelected.
Henrietta Davis topped the ticket.
Neighborhood activist Larry Ward, who filled the seat of Brian
Murphy after Murphy left for a state job, was not elected.
Decker's write-in campaign was the primary reason election results
were not available Tuesday night.
